Layoff history
Atmosphere TV, an Austin-based startup that provides free ad-supported streaming channels to bars, restaurants, and health clubs, laid off approximately 100 employees in May 2024, filing a WARN Act notice with Texas confirming the cuts as permanent. The affected workforce spanned account executives, engineers, directors, managers, and producers at its Texas office. The company, a spinoff of Chive Media Group with content running in over 60,000 venues via Apple TV set-top boxes, faced a deteriorating advertising environment as brand budgets shifted toward retail media networks where sales impact can be directly measured. Competitor Loop Media had announced similar cuts earlier in the year. No executive statement was issued publicly alongside the notice.
