Emma Sleep has 1 publicly reported layoff round on record (most recent June 19, 2024). A total of about 200 employees were affected across these rounds.
Layoff history
German mattress startup Emma Sleep cut 200 jobs in June 2024, shedding 18% of its roughly 1,120-person global workforce as weak demand across the e-commerce and housing sectors continued to squeeze the business. CEO Dennis Schmoltzi pointed to years of inconsistency in both markets and acknowledged that a complex rollout of new operational and financial systems had created additional strain. The cuts affected staff across multiple sites including Frankfurt, Lisbon, Bucharest, Shanghai, and Mexico City. Majority owner Haniel, which took a controlling stake in 2020, backed the restructuring. No severance details were disclosed publicly.
Reason: Weak e-commerce and housing market conditions; operational system difficulties
