Layoff history
As part of a broader cost-reduction push, Ericsson said on January 15, 2026 that it planned to cut about 1,600 jobs in its home country of Sweden. The Swedish telecom-equipment maker described the reductions as measures meant to protect its competitive position and improve its cost base while keeping the investments it sees as critical to its technology leadership and its strategy of delivering high-performing, programmable networks. The company employs over 90,000 people worldwide and around 13,000 in Sweden. It said it had notified the Swedish Public Employment Service and opened negotiations with the relevant trade unions. The move extends a cost-cutting program first outlined in early 2023, when Ericsson set out to trim its global workforce by roughly 8,500 employees. Further efficiency initiatives will continue across the group but will not be announced separately.

Swedish telecom-equipment maker Ericsson told employees in February 2023 that it would cut about 8,500 jobs globally as part of a plan to reduce costs, pointing to a softer market for 5G network gear. According to an internal memo, the reductions would come through a mix of layoffs and the phase-out of consultants, and they would vary by country. The company targeted billions of kronor in annual savings.
