Expedia Group cut about 100 jobs at its Austin, Texas offices in early February 2026, with the layoffs taking effect April 1, 2026. The reductions, centered on the company's corporate offices near The Domain, came alongside roughly 160 additional cuts at the Seattle headquarters. The travel company said it was "simplifying our structure and reducing organizational layers to move faster and with more accountability" while staying "disciplined about assessing the skills we need for the future." A spokesperson added, "These are not easy decisions, and we are grateful for the contributions of our colleagues who are impacted." It was Expedia's second major Austin workforce reduction in two years, following earlier cuts in February 2024 that were part of a 9% global reduction.

Expedia Group began notifying employees on February 26, 2024 that roughly 1,500 roles would be eliminated over the course of the year, cutting more than 8% of its 17,100-person global workforce. The reductions were concentrated in the Product and Technology division and followed the company's completion of migrating Hotels.com and Vrbo onto the Expedia.com platform, a major multi-year technical project. Outgoing CEO Peter Kern wrote to staff that with significant technical debt now cleared, the company needed to look hard at "roles, skills, teams, and locations" to redirect resources appropriately. The Seattle headquarters bore 208 of the cuts, with those employees formally departing starting May 1. Expedia offered departing workers severance packages, extended Employee Assistance Program access, and internal job application support. Total restructuring charges for 2024 reached $80 million, covering severance, stock compensation, and benefits costs.
