Freshworks said on May 5, 2026 that it would eliminate about 500 roles, roughly 11% of its global workforce, as AI reshapes the software sector. CEO Dennis Woodside told investors that more than half of the company's code is now written by AI, reducing 'rote work that technology can take care of,' with savings redirected toward its Freshservice product line. The cuts landed the same day as a Q1 2026 earnings beat, with revenue up 16% year over year to $228.6 million and the two largest deals in company history closing in the quarter. The company expects about $8 million in one-time restructuring charges, mostly in the second quarter. It was the second major reduction under Woodside, following roughly 660 cuts in November 2024.

Freshworks cut 660 employees, about 13% of its global workforce, in November 2024 as newly installed CEO Dennis Woodside moved to consolidate the company around its faster-growing business lines. Woodside, who took the role in May 2024 after founder Girish Mathrubootham stepped back, said the company combined teams focused on Customer Experience products to free up resources for the Employee Experience segment. The restructuring came on the same day Freshworks reported Q3 revenue of $186.57 million, up 21.5% year over year, though losses widened 49% quarter over quarter. Freshworks also announced a $400 million stock buyback alongside the cuts and expected to record $11 to $13 million in charges covering separation payments and benefits. The company said it planned to complete the restructuring before the end of 2024.
