Layoff history
Austin-based ICON, a construction 3D printing company last valued at about $2 billion, laid off 114 employees in January 2025, cutting roughly 25% of a workforce that had numbered fewer than 400. The company said the cuts were needed to "re-align" its team around its highest priorities, specifically accelerating development of Phoenix, a new multi-story robotic printing system, and getting that technology into the hands of builders. The layoffs, filed with the Texas Workforce Commission with an effective date of March 8, 2025, came despite the company having raised more than $450 million since its 2017 founding. ICON said it would continue a select group of projects in residential, hospitality, affordable housing, and Department of Defense sectors with its reduced team. No severance details were disclosed.
