Indeed cut roughly 1,000 employees, about 8% of its global workforce, on May 13, 2024, in a restructuring the company described as distinct from prior cost-cutting rounds. CEO Chris Hyams told staff the organization had become "too complex" with "significant duplication of effort and too many organizational layers," and the goal was to simplify decision-making and accelerate revenue growth rather than simply reduce costs. The cuts fell primarily on R&D and Go-to-Market teams, with sales and customer service roles in Foster City, California largely eliminated. Management layers were reduced across the company. Separation packages were more generous than those offered during Indeed's 2023 layoffs, including severance, healthcare payments, and outplacement services. Hyams noted the final selections had no measurably disproportionate impact on women or underrepresented groups in the U.S.
