August 5, 2024
Infineon cut 1,400 employees
1,400 laid off Location Munich

Infineon Technologies announced plans in August 2024 to eliminate 1,400 positions worldwide, alongside relocating another 1,400 roles to lower-cost countries, as the German chipmaker absorbed the consequences of a prolonged market slowdown. CEO Jochen Hanebeck said "the recovery in our target markets is progressing only slowly," pointing to excess inventory levels that were masking real demand. Q2 2024 revenue came in at €3.7 billion, down 9% year over year and below the company's own forecast of €3.8 billion. The cuts were part of Infineon's previously announced "Step Up" cost-saving program, which management said it expected to lift performance heading into fiscal 2025. Several hundred German positions were among those affected. No severance details were disclosed in the announcement.

Reason: Slow market recovery, excess inventory, cost savings under 'Step Up' program
