Krutrim, the Bengaluru-based AI startup founded by Ola's Bhavish Aggarwal, cut more than 100 employees in late July 2025 in what marked its second round of layoffs in less than two months. The cuts fell hardest on the linguistics division, which had employed around 600 people to build multilingual training data across ten Indian languages including Telugu, Odia, Marathi, and Tamil. With that data-gathering phase winding down, the company pivoted toward product refinement and platform integration, leaving those roles redundant. Fundraising difficulties deepened the pressure: a planned $500 million round had already been scaled back to $300 million amid tepid investor interest, and Krutrim's LLM and cloud products launched in 2024 struggled to pull users away from established global providers. Impacted staff received severance packages and outplacement assistance. The cuts followed nearly a dozen senior executive departures in 2024 and continued leadership churn into early 2025.

Reason: Strategic pivot away from linguistics data-gathering; slow product traction and delayed fundraising
