Lucid Motors laid off roughly 400 employees in May 2024, cutting 6% of its US workforce as the electric-vehicle maker moved to control costs ahead of the Gravity SUV launch. Hourly manufacturing and logistics workers were spared; the cuts came from salaried staff at all levels, including leadership and mid-level management. CEO Peter Rawlinson acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but said cost discipline was essential while the company remained unprofitable. "I'm confident Lucid will deliver the world's best SUV and dramatically expand our total addressable market," he wrote to staff. The company estimated total charges of $21 to $25 million, mostly in cash, with completion expected by the end of Q3 2024.
