OrCam eliminated 100 jobs in June 2024, roughly half of its remaining staff, as the Jerusalem-based assistive-technology company split its hearing and vision divisions and confronted a sharp drop in sales. The cuts followed a February 2024 reduction of 50 workers, bringing total headcount from around 220 down to approximately 120 after the June round. Management said the restructuring would "help the company focus its activities, accelerate the transition to profitability, and prepare for raising capital when market conditions allow." Positions cut were concentrated in marketing and sales, particularly roles tied to the company's vision products for the blind. Contributing factors included a collapse in sales to Arab countries lacking diplomatic ties with Israel, the broader impact of the ongoing war, and growing competition from generative AI tools offering similar smartphone-based functionality. OrCam had previously targeted a $2.5 billion-plus IPO valuation, plans that remained on hold.
