Layoff history
PrepLadder, the NEET exam-prep platform owned by Unacademy, cut 145 employees in May 2024, about 25% of its roughly 560-person workforce. The reductions fell hardest on sales, with around 100 field sales staff let go as the company shifted away from in-person college events toward an inside sales model. Marketing, product, and tech roles were also affected. An Unacademy spokesperson described the move as a "necessary exercise" to enhance business efficiency in line with the company's goals for the year. Laid-off employees received severance tied to their notice periods plus five months of extended medical insurance. The round was PrepLadder's third in three years, following Unacademy's stepped-up operational involvement beginning in late 2023.
