The transition, effective September 12, 2024, was framed as a response to driver demand for flexibility. "The leading reason people didn't want to join Revel was the lack of flexibility," said Haley Rubinson, VP of corporate affairs. Under the new model, contractors could rent Teslas from Revel's fleet at $10 per hour, with insurance, maintenance, and charging included. The company said a pilot with 100 drivers in February had gone well, with four of five participants recommending the gig arrangement. Revel's ride-hail division had recently turned gross-margin positive and was tracking toward EBITDA profitability by year-end.
