SkipTheDishes and its Dutch parent Just Eat Takeaway.com cut 800 Canadian jobs in August 2024 as part of a broader restructuring. About 100 of those positions were held by SkipTheDishes employees based in Canada, with the remaining 700 belonging to Just Eat's Canadian operations staff. CEO Paul Burns announced the reductions on LinkedIn, saying a "comprehensive review and restructure" had found the changes necessary "to ensure the business has the right resources and structure to drive growth." The Winnipeg-founded delivery company has struggled since pandemic-era demand faded, with food service inflation running at 3.8% year-over-year through July 2024, well above grocery price increases, pushing customers away from delivery platforms. SkipTheDishes was acquired by Just Eat in 2016.

Reason: Post-pandemic demand decline; inflation reducing delivery app competitiveness
