Take-Two Interactive announced on April 16, 2024 that it would cut roughly 579 employees, about 5% of its global workforce, as part of a broad cost-reduction plan the company expected to complete by the end of the year. The publisher also cancelled several unannounced games in development. Total charges from the plan were estimated at $160 million to $200 million, with $25 million to $35 million earmarked for employee severance and related costs. The announcement came just weeks after CEO Strauss Zelnick had told investors the company had "no current plans" to lay off colleagues, and only months after Take-Two closed a $460 million acquisition of Gearbox Entertainment. The cuts added to a brutal stretch for the gaming industry: more than 8,800 workers had already lost jobs across the sector in 2024 alone.

Reason: cost reduction and pipeline rationalization
